Above all, the Bonkoungou Workshop is the story of Issouf Bonkoungou, a man who dedicated his life to bronze sculpture and helping others.
As soon as he was able, he hired apprentices to provide them with the financial stability needed to buy a home or send their children to school. Over nearly 30 years, a family came together, discussing, exchanging ideas and moving forward to create the most beautiful sculptures in Burkina Faso.
Today, there are more than 25 of them (not counting those who have since set up on their own), and they work tirelessly to design new pieces, perfect details and create beautiful patinas, all with the aim of offering you the finest examples of Burkinabé craftsmanship.
This large family has become a pillar of creativity and mutual support, indirectly providing livelihoods for hundreds of people. Our greatest achievement is having successfully guided them this far.
